Toure turns down Bursaspor

Considering all of the speculation surrounding Kolo Toure’s future, most City fans have simply been preparing themselves for his exit. However, it appears as though the former Arsenal defender has opted against a transfer, claiming that he is happy at the Etihad Stadium and is not interested in a move to Turkish side Bursaspor.

There have been intense rumours over the past few weeks that Bursaspor had agreed a fee with City and that Toure would be joining the club in the very near future. Such speculation intensified even more several days ago, after Roberto Mancini hinted that the former Arsenal defender no longer had a future at the club.

However, while it has become clear that Toure did have talks with Bursaspor, it now seems as though the 31-year-old is concentrating on his future at Manchester City. Speaking to the press, Toure said, “I did speak to the people there [Bursaspor], but I’m just focusing on City. I’m a City player, I still enjoy it here and you can see that. I love playing at the same club as my brother, but we will see what will happen. I’ve got one year left on my contract and that’s it. At the moment I am still at City and all my commitment is to the club, but you never know the future.”

Toure’s comments also suggest that while he is no longer interested in a switch to Turkey, he still has doubts over his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium. Such reservations would appear to be completely natural following Mancini’s recent words about his future and most City supporters are still probably bracing themselves for his exit. The fact that he is reportedly one of the high-earners at the Etihad Stadium does not aid his situation, with City looking to conform with the forthcoming Financial Fair Play Regulations.
